The Bobby D. White Detachment of the Marine Corps League held its 13th Annual race/walk on Saturday, August 22 at 8:30 a.m. in West Union. The race was once again sponsored by Pepsi of Ripley. Representative Bubp ran in the race along with a total of 97 paid walkers and runners participating in this year’s event.
The race/walk began at the West Union Elementary School and runners and walkers proceeded out and back Cherry Street and Pumpkin Ridge Road. Marine Corps League trophies were awarded to the first three male and female runners.
The top three male runners were Nathan Hauke, of Winchester with a time of 17’ 27”; Nick McAfee of Georgetown; and Austin Smith of Sardinia.
The top three female runners were Breanna Unger, of Peebles with a time of 23’ 38”; Krista Seigla of Georgetown; and Shari Easterling of Mt. Orab.
Marine Corps League medals were also awarded to the top three runners, male and female, in each of the established age divisions. Marine Corps League medals were also awarded to the top male and female walker in each age division.
In addition to Pepsi of Ripley, Prather’s IGA of West Union provided banana’s and watermelon, Fred and Donnie Edgington of Snappy Tomato Pizza donated four “Beast” pizzas that were thoroughly enjoyed by the race participants and McDonald’s of West Union supported the race.
The 14th annual Marine Corps League 5K race/walk will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010.
